One of the most debated questions. Should the book always be read before the movie… I think, no. In fact, while I try to always wait to read the book first, I know if I read it I may not care to watch it. If I watch the show first, I’ll want to know how they changed it and then read the book.
Of course, there are always times I watch the movie and only at the END realize it was a book, so I’ll go back and read the book. There are also times I’ll read the book and notice in the acknowledgements that it will be turning into a movie [looking at you Scythe!].
All in all, I do not think I care too much which I see or read first. I just won’t be too rushed to consume the story in a different format– unless the movie was very good.

Books In Her Eyes 
I’m wholeheartedly a book before the movie type of person. Of course there are times when I watch the movie first, but I try to read the book first whenever I can.

I did try to do this before, and I think it is better– coming from my bookish side, but I know myself too well so I know this doesn’t work often. I started watching The Magicians got 3 episodes in, decided to wait and read it before watching more, read the book and decided to stop watching show haha.
On the other hand, I haven’t watched OR read any Jane Austen and I’m debating whether to read or watch first…

You should read it first! However I often find that audiobooks are best for reading classics at times.

I prefer reading the book first but there have been a few times where I’ve seen the movie before reading the book.

This is usually my basic thought. Occasionally though, if I wait and read the book first, sometimes I don’t feel the need to watch the movie/TV show? Usually watching first makes me more eager to read the book ^_^

While I am typically a read then watch gal, I can see the positive of watching first. If a film fails to deliver, it is easy to rely on the fact that the book might still bring much more to the table. However, if a book disappoints I tend to lose any desire for the film. And (I cannot think of an example at the moment) there are somethings I will be interested in watching but never reading 😉

I agree with this. Perhaps it was my lack of interest in The Magicians book which led me to not wanting to continue watching the show. I loved reading the Harry Potter novels, so I wanted to watch the movies.
Although, I’ve never watched The Hunger Games even though I enjoyed the novels. I think this requires more research on my part haha
