Sunday Post 9/20/2020

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blogs.

I knew I wasn’t going to follow my Weekly TBR last week… but I still read a TON–surprising since I’ve been in a weird funk.

Sweet Retribution (Ruthless Games #2)Sweet Salvation (Ruthless Games, #3)Pin-up GirlThe Cool Aunt (Hidden Legacy, #5.1)Uppercut Princess (The Heights Crew, #1)

  • Ruthless Games #2-3 by Callie Rose 🍰
⭐⭐⭐ – Interesting series although it felt like it was missing something to truly get me to love it.
  • Pin-up Girl by Blake Blessing 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Not at all what I expected. This was a mystery and dark and lovely.
  • The Cool Aunt by Ilona Andrews 🌱
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – A little extra by Ilona Andrews on their website. I loved it!
  • The Heights Crew #1-4 by E.M. Moore 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Definitely some cringe moments and her plan for revenge wasn’t a plan AT ALL, but I couldn’t stop reading. A popcorn-eating, binge-worthy series.

Playing with FireQueen’s Quality, Vol. 2Say Her NameDrawing the Vote: An Illustrated Guide to Voting in AmericaThe Black Mage

  • Playing With Fire by L.J. Shen 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – L.J. Shen seems to be hit-or-miss with me, so I’m always worried about starting their books, but can’t seem to stop myself. I’m so glad I picked this one up though, this was great.
  • Queen’s Quality, Vol. 2 by Kyousuke Motomi 💥
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Probably my favorite out of the few manga series I’m currently reading.
  • Say Her Name by Zetta Elliot 🎧🌱
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Poetry is best when listened to and I think that does apply her. An emotional read.
  • Drawing the Vote by Tommy Jenkins 💥
⭐⭐⭐.5 – Informative, but at times too much. I appreciate all the history and shining a light on minorities, but I would have liked more on current times.
  • The Black Mage by Daniel Barnes & D.J. Kirkland 💥
⭐⭐⭐.5 – This was so, so heavy-handed. It is uncomfortable. But also and important read and I hope youth enjoy reading a book where the main characters take down the KKK.

The Demon Prince of Momochi House, Vol. 2Friends with the Monsters (Friends with the Monsters, #1)Some Kind of Monster (Friends with the Monsters #2)Beautiful & Dirty (The Family #1)The Hitman (The Family, #2)

  • The Demon Prince of Momochi House, Vol. 2 by Aya Shouto 💥
⭐⭐⭐ – Yeeeaaahhh, I’m not going to continue. It is okay and I like the artwork, but the characters and their actions don’t make sense.
  • Friends With the Monsters by Albany Walker 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – a re-read to remember what happened for book 2. I did like this one more on the second read through.
  • Some Kind of Monster by Albany Walker 🍰🐾
⭐⭐⭐ – eeeehhhh this was okay. Interesting, I’m glad I read it, but I still have so many questions and the series is over.
  • Beautiful & Dirty by Katrina Jackson 🍰🌱
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – This novella is just the start of their series!! I want more so badly omg.
  • The Hitman by Katrina Jackson 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – This was fabulous, I love the female main character, and just everything about this. I cannot wait for more in this series and hopefully we get the continuation for BEautiful & Dirty soon!!!

Academy of the Forgotten (Cursed Studies, #1)Tormentor Mine (Tormentor Mine, #1)When She Belongs: A SciFi Alien Romance (A Risdaverse Tale Book 4)Anonymous Noise, Vol. 8Anonymous Noise, Vol. 9

  • Academy of the Forgotten by Eva Chase 🍰🐾
⭐⭐.5 – This book annoyed me to no end. It is dark and mysterious, I read to figure out the mystery, but omg no I can’t keep going.
  • Tormentor Mine by Anna Zaires
⭐⭐⭐ – Dark like I have been wanting, but not what I’m craving it felt… too realistically dark for me maybe? I mean, he killed he husband…
  • When She Belongs by Ruby Dixon 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – This was sweet and fun. Not really what I’m in the mood for, but enough to carry me through. I just  really am loving Ruby Dixon.
  • Anonymous Noise, Vol. 8 & 9 by Ryoko Fukuyama 💥
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Is the romance still back and forth? Yeah. So much angst, but I love the artwork, I love feeling the music coming off the page and these kids have sucked me in, so I guess I’ll be finishing this series.

No TBR to strictly follow this week as I was still recovering, so I let myself do… whatever really. Plus, I spent Monday in the ER so I didn’t have time to make one haha.

  • Chaotic by T.S. Snow 🐾🍰

  • Unnatural by Alessandra Hazard 🍰✌
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Interesting and entertaining as usual.
  • Bear, Otter, and The Kid by TJ Klune 🌈
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Another good book by TJ Klune. Definitely not a favorite, but I do think I’ll continue the series.
  • Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper by J.L. Bryan 💰👑
⭐⭐⭐ – A re-read as I try to get further into this series. I’m feeling the slightly spooky mysterious vibes. The challenge/goal it is helping me with is to read outside of the romance genre.
  • Vice College for Young Demons #1-4 by Marie Mistry 💰🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – I own the first of four– started as a five star series, the last was 3.5. Really interesting and enjoyable.

  • Deven and the Dragon by Eliot Grayson 🍰🌈
⭐⭐⭐.5 – Lovely and sweet, but I was never truly hooked 😕
  • Sweet Obsession by Callie Rose 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – As you might have been able to tell from the last few books, I’m in the mood for dark romance and this one is… kind of fitting the bill. Not what I was looking for, but I’m interested to see how it plays out.

Sweet Retribution (Ruthless Games #2)Cool Beans: The Ultimate Guide to Cooking with the World's Most Versatile Plant-Based Protein, with 125 Recipes

I’m about halfway through Sweet Retribution and it is interesting, I have a few theories on how it will go down, but sometimes it feels slow. lol I’m waiting for the action scenes, I think. I am also kind of reading Cool Beans errr I was, but I haven’t picked it up in a week. Hopefully I’ll look at it more in the next few days.  Continue reading “Sunday Post 9/13/20”

  • The Others #1 – 4 by Anne Bishop 🤞🐾

Alrighty, I skipped last week because I was in a funk, but  I won’t be rehashing it since I read way too much. Hahah this post would be suuuper long. Anyhow, did I stick to my TBR? Mostly! This week ended up being the week of re-reads and tomes.

Hannaford Prep: The Complete SeriesHard to Find (Hell Hounds Harem #4)Hard to Love (Hell Hounds Harem #5)Hard to Kill (Hell Hounds Harem #6)

  • Hannaford Prep: The Complete Series by J. Bree ✌🍰 (1,274 pages)
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Technically this is 4 books in one. Also a re-read. This is on my to-buy list ❤.
  • Hell Hound Harem: Second Trilogy (#4-6) by Briana Michaels ✌🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Another series re-read. I thought I’d have to force myself to continue through it whic his why only book 4 was on my TBR for the week, but I got hooked! This means I’m making great progress and I’m hopeful in September I’ll finally get to the third trilogy.

The Poppy War (The Poppy War, #1)Wolf Gone Wild (Stay a Spell #1)Gideon the Ninth (The Locked Tomb, #1)

  • The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang ✌👑🐾🎮 (644 pages)
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – WOW, this book is amazing. There is about 10% there that turned my stomach, but other than that… wow.
  • Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross 🍰✌
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – I needed some fluff after finishing The Poppy War before starting the next big book on my list. This was cute, just like I wanted and I look forward to the next.
  • Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir ✌🌈 (448 pages)
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Amazing, once again. I even knew what was coming and still teared up.

I know, I know, this doesn’t seem like a lot of books from me…. but that’s why I included page numbers haha and technically Hannaford prep is 4 books which should put me back where I usually am. Oh, and let’s not forget what I’m currently reading… Continue reading “Sunday Post 8/30/20”

Guarding TemptationThe Devil's Darling (Hell Hounds Harem, #3)BEASTARS 6 (Beastars, #6)Cosmo Familia, Vol. 1

  • Guarding Temptation by Talia Hibbert 🌱
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – Bless Hoopla for having this one. I’ve read almost everything by this author and have not been letdown yet!
  • The Devil’s Darling by Briana Michaels 🍰✌
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Slowly making my way through this re-read.
  • Beastars, vol. 6 by Paru Itagaki 💥
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Okay, I liked this volume more than the previous, so I will continue on the series… hesitantly.
  • Cosmo Familia, vol. 1 by Hanokage 💥
⭐⭐⭐.5 – Meh, a little too confusing for me, but I think I’ll at least give volume 2 a try.
  • Fake to Fate by Anastasia Austin 🍰✌🌱
⭐⭐⭐ – This was… okay. It started great, but the ridiculous notions taken as normal threw me off.

Engagement and Espionage (Solving for Pie: Cletus and Jenn Mysteries Series, #1)Fake to Fate (Fate, #1)Four Letter Word (Dirty Deeds, #1)Anonymous Noise, Vol. 6

  • Engagement and Espionage by Penny Reid ✌
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Cletus and Jenn are everything! This has a fun little mystery and I like how we get to watch their relationship grow from newly dating to long-term partners.
  • Fake to Fate by Anastasia Austin 🍰✌🌱
⭐⭐⭐ – This was… okay. It started great, but the ridiculous notions taken as normal threw me off.
  • Four Letter Word by J. Daniels 🍰
⭐⭐.5 – If I could go back and not read the last like 15% I would — I’d also probably love this book. There was a lot of overreaction going on and a lot of dissing porn, which seems silly???? .
  • Anonymous Noise, vol. 6 by Ryoko Fukuyama 💥
⭐⭐⭐ – Okay, now I understand why people are complaining about the back and forth on fighting/waiting for them to getting over them and back again. I swear they did this back and forth multiple times in just one volume!

Happy Trail (Park Ranger, #1)Dirty Talk (Get Dirty, #1)Storm Forged (Death Before Dragons #6)Only When It's Us (Bergman Brothers, #1)

  • Happy Trail by Daisy Prescott 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – So, I do think their meeting took too long which forced their romance to be super rushed, but I ended up really liking the book and I also really want to go for a hike now.
  • Dirty Talk by Lauren Landish 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – This was super steamy, but I really liked the set up and found it enjoyable to read.
  • Storm Forged by Lindsay Buroker 🍰✌
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – I forgot this one came out this week otherwise it would have been on my Weekly TBR — it is on Monthly, so I’m counting it. Hilarious and feels like the end of a season??? I don’t know where she will go from here, but the author did mention taking a break from it to update her other series.
  • Only When it is Us by Chloe Liese 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – This is such a fun read! I really enjoyed it.

Reaper Unveiled (Deadside Reapers, #4)The Girl Who Sees (Sasha Urban, #1)Bookish and the Beast (Once Upon a Con, #3)Anonymous Noise, Vol. 1Aphrodite Made Me Do It

  • Reaper Unveiled by Debbie Cassidy 🍰🐾✌
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Okay, glad I continued on, but I’m still…. unsure about where it is going.
  • Sasha Urban #1-5 by Dima Zales 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Why only 1-5??? because after I finished 5 the books were taken off KU!! 😭 Which, I understand, but I just don’t have the money right now to buy books 6 & 7 to finish this… especially when I start to think about all the things that bother me with me. Like… yeah I felt addicted to it, but the romance is based on nothing and she continues to want to do magic show for… the magical.
  • Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston ✌👑🌈🐲
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Hello, I am once again in love with Ashley Poston. This book is everything I wanted and I totally would have read more of this couple. Vance is… not straight, but idk his label. BUT, he is our bad boy who also plays otome games??? So, I love him. Also, I relate to Rosie so, so much. This may be my favorite of the series. (Challenge: read more YA)
  • Anonymous Noise #1-5 by Ryoko Fukuyama 💥
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – This is one I’ve wanted to read for awhile and I saaw my library owns them on Overdrive soooo I had to jump on it. Currently on hold for #6.
  • Aphrodite Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer 👑🌈✌
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – So many good lines and a great new way to rethink Aphrodite. I kind of want to re-read this and I also now want to read more poetry. Thank you.
(challenge: read poetry in august, read something non-romance)

Did I mention I read a lot of graphic novels this week?!?!

  • Crowded, vol. 2 by Christopher Sebela 💥
⭐⭐⭐ – This volume started great, was so glad I continued on… then “ah, right.” It is difficult to like unlikebale characters. The plot is very interesting, but I kind of want Charlie to die… which… if the author is doing this on purpose, it is masterfully done. Everyone, including the reader wants this woman dead.
  • Spy x Family, vol. 2 by Tatsuya Endo 💥🐲
    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Please… I need more of this.
  • Not Your Idol, vol. 2 by Aoi Makino 💥🐲
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – Interesting progression and yeah, still never dark. tw: assault, rape (I think although it isn’t explicitly said?)
  • Demon Slayer, vol. 1 by Koyoharu Gotouge 💥
⭐⭐⭐ – Meh, this one isn’t for me.
  • Act-age, vol. 2 by Tatsuya Matsuki 💥🐲
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – You know what sucks? I adore this manga. It is hilarious and I want to see where the plot goes, but the author is currently arrested for sexual misconduct with a minor, so… I won’t be continuing this series.
  • Beastars, vol. 5 by Paru Itagaki 💥✌
⭐⭐⭐ – UGH, I don’t know… it was okay??? I was just uncomfortable with a few scenes and I’m not sure about this series.

Fly Me to the Moon, Vol. 1 by Kenjiro HataLittle Bird: The Fight for Elder's HopeBeard with Me (Winston Brothers, #6)Beard Science (Winston Brothers, #3)Banned Book ClubOperation Get Her Back (Jetty Beach, #4)

  • Fly Me to the Moon by Kenjiro Hata 🐲💥
⭐⭐⭐ – Not bad, but not a story I generally like.
  • Little Bird: The Fight for Elder’s Hope by Darcy Van Poelgeest 💥
⭐⭐⭐ – Look, I decided to read this after watching the session featuring the author on SLJ Teen Live, but calling this a YA book… I don’t know. I see it, I just have a hard time with it.
  • Beard With Me by Penny Reid ✌
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – My heart is STILL broken.
  • Beard Science by Penny Reid
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Technically not on a weekly or monthly TBR list, but I do want to re-read and finish reading all the books in the series this year. Only book I have yet to read (since finishing Beard With Me) is Beard Necessities. Before moving on though, I want to read Cletus & Jenn’s cozy mystery: Engagement & Espionage.
  • Banned Book Club by Kim Hyun Sook 💥✌
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – UGH this is a great book. So powerful and meaningful.
  • Operation Get Her Back by Claire Kingsley ✌🍰
⭐⭐⭐ – You know, for a second chance romance, I didn’t hate this one. My hope in the trope is slightly rekindling.

  • Phantom of the Library by Lidiya Foxglove 🍰🐾
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – I meant to put this one on my Weekly TBR as well, but mixed it up with another book — whoops! Anyhow, this was a fun series that was magic and house renovations!
  • Mist and Magic by Lindsay Buroker 🍰🤞🌱
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – a prequel novella. Not as funny as the other books, much more real and shows why Val pushed people away.
  • Conspiracy by Lindsay Buroker 🤞
⭐⭐⭐.5 – This series… I loved the beginning, but it is slowly waning. It has great lines and I love the story, but it feels long and I hate how there is still no trust between the crew.

Sounds of SilenceBy a ThreadFever Claim (The Sigma Menace #1)Phoenix (The Stardust Series, #1)Before Girl

  • Sounds of Silence by Candace Wondrak 🍰
⭐⭐⭐ – It isn’t often I find books with main characters dealing with depression. I think it was well done, but I wish the relationships were done a bit better.
  • By a Thread by Lucy Score 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – This one was so fun! It didn’t even feel like it was almost 600 pages.
  • Fever Claim by Marie Johnston 💰
⭐⭐⭐.5 – One of those free books I got a few months ago. Pretty entertaining, but don’t think I’ll read on.
  • The Stardust Series #1-6 by Autumn Reed & Julia Clarke 🍰🤞🎮
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – This was a sweet slow-burn romance series. Very cute.
  • Before Girl by Kate Canterbary 💰🤞
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Okay, I obviously need to read more by this author. This was fantastic.

Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, Vol. 1SunshineHouse of Secrets (Beautiful Secrets, #1)Deck of Shadows (Beautiful Secrets, #2)Safely Endangered Comics

  • Toilet-bound Hanako-Kun, Vol. 1 by AidoIro 💥
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – This was so fun to read and I love the artwork! Looking forward to the next volume.
  • Sunshine by Robin McKinley 🤞🐾🎧
⭐⭐ – Ugh I have no idea why I liked this in the past, this was so difficult to read. I listened to the last 3 hours which is how I got through it.
  • House of Secrets and Deck of Shadows🌱 by Marie Robinson 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐and ⭐⭐⭐ – Really enjoyed the first, the second was okay and now I’m not sure I want to read the last one…
  • Safely Endangered Comics by Chris McCoy 💥👑
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – Pretty funny ^_^ I picked this up because it has a 3-word title and might appeal to YA audiences.

The Fox & the Little Tanuki, Volume 2Shadow of Angels (Halfway Between #1)The Extraordinaries (The Extraordinaries, #1)Freeing Luka (Clecanian #2)

  • The Fox & The Tanuki, Vol. 2 by Mi Tagawa 💥🐲
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Still cute, but a little darker than before. Wondering if it really is a YA title and not MG. Sensou is misunderstood and isn’t bad… I wish he didn’t have to redeem himself. I wish he was the one getting apologies…
  • Shadow of Angels by Kathryn Ann Kingsley 🍰🤞
⭐⭐⭐ – As much as I love her villain romances, this one didn’t work for me. That sex scene was odd, even for someone who skims through them haha.
  • The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune 🤞🐲🌈
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – Adorable and had me laughing until I was in tears. That epilogue has me dying for the next book.
  • Freeing Luka by Victoria Aveline 🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – I’m really liking this series!! It is an interesting world and I hope we learn more about it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Such a cute book and helps my challenge to read more YA & MG.
  • Dragon’s Gift by Jasmine Walt & May Sage 🍰🤞
⭐⭐.5 – Wow I absolutely hate how women are talked about in this book and I don’t find it sexy when guys say they want to fill the MC with babies. So sleazy.
