Try A Chapter Challenge – ARC Edition

Hello friends!

I’ve been seeing this challenge around and been thinking it looked fun, but I haven’t been in a good place to really try it out. Now I’m slowing down on my reading and taking more breaks (yay!) I have more time to blog. Although, the amount of ARCs I have backed up is truly stressing me out. I have 30+ ARCs that I need to read that are past their publication date– I know this isn’t as much as some people, but some of these are pushing the year mark…

That’s when it hit me.

Why not use this challenge to help me with my ARCs?!

A quick recap of what this challenge is… the Try a Chapter Challenge is one that started on Youtube (I believe) where the person reads the first chapter of five different books and chooses one of those books to read ASAP, based on the results. Some people also use this challenge to unhaul books as well.

Sometimes I just need a kick in the pants — I start reading and I’m good, it’s the build up and waiting that make it worse, I just need to get myself started! So, I’m hoping by giving myself a taste of these books I’ll be more willing to read them sooner. I am allowing myself to drop ARCs as well if after a chapter I realize it isn’t for me.

Phew~ That’s a lot of information! Hopefully I can do this challenge once or twice a month– I’m thinking I’ll do it every time I finish the book I pick. I won’t always use my ARCs for this challenge, but I figured it was a good place to start 😉 Continue reading “Try A Chapter Challenge – ARC Edition”

TBR Lows & Highs #54

Hi friends! So, I thought I wouldn’t have time to write one of these up this week, buuuttt why put laundry away when I can continue having fun instead?? My vacation was FAB and I’ll talk about it more in my Sunday Post tomorrow, but I still had time to add books to my GR TBR (how?!), so writing this post a day last to show off those adds is better than having a mile-long High section next week… right?

Anyhoooo, let’s get to it!

Rules:

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
    • ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Find 5+ titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

The “Out of My Comfort Zone” Book Tag

Destiny from Howling Libraries tagged me in this fun post. If you haven’t stopped by her blog, you really should!!
Emma from emmmabooks created this tag that is all about coming up with answers outside of your comfort zone, and it has one major rule:

You have to pick ONE GENRE that you frequently read about… and then, you can’t use ANY books from that genre while answering the questions!

While I feel like I have a few genres I could pick from, I think I’ll go with Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy. These genres are pretty similar and tend to be the ones I reach for when I’m looking for… well, comfort. 🙂

Let’s see how I do! Continue reading “The “Out of My Comfort Zone” Book Tag”

Down the TBR Hole #7

This post was created by Lia from Lost in a Story since many of us add more books in a week than we actually read and sometimes completely forget what the heck is on the list (so guilty). Since I started my Goodreads list back in 2012 — then abandoned it for a few years and then came back and started adding things without reviewing what was already on my list…. this fits me to a T.  Continue reading “Down the TBR Hole #7”
