  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)

  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

✘✘✘ The Lows ✘✘✘

Hostile Witness (Witness, #1)The Forest QueenThese Rebel Waves (Stream Raiders, #1)Blood Stained Tea (The Yakuza Path, #1)The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)

Hostile Witness by Rebecca Forster
I grabbed this one free from Amazon a few years back. The thing is, I’m not a huge fan of legal thrillers, so I’ll pass on this one.

The Forest Queen by Betsy Cornwell
As much as I like Robin Hood, I tend to not like retellings of the legend. I’ll pass on this one rather than let my heart die a little more…

These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch
I see too many negative reviews by friends that I generally trust. This one probably isn’t for me.

Blood Stained Tea by Amy Tasukada
I’m not ready to say I won’t read this one. I’m actually quite interested–I think I forgot what it was about because had I remembered it dealt with the Yakuza and Korean organized crime with a m/m love story woven in, I probably would have read it sooner.

The Wicked King by Holly Black
Yeah…. how have I not read this one yet???  Continue reading “TBR Lows & Highs #82”

Once Upon a Time (Calluvia's Royalty, #3)Behind His Eyes (Jetty Beach, #1)One Crazy Week (Jetty Beach, #2)Ariel, Always Enough (Iron Orchids, #1)All Boys Aren't Blue

  • Once Upon a Time by Alessandra Hazard 🌈🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Caught up in this series and I”m looking forward to future releases.
  • Behind His Eyes One Crazy Week by Claire Kingsley 🍰🎮
⭐⭐⭐- I started Jetty Beach! I’m not a huge fan… but I want to read one more book before giving up on the series and moving onto Miles Family.
  • Ariel, Always Enough by Danielle Norman 🍰👑🎮
⭐⭐ – Read this because I needed a MC romance and this did not work for me.
  • All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson 🎧👑🌈
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Amazing. Absolutely stunning. I wanted to read a new release on audio, this seemed good and short and it blew me away and started me on my audiobook binge haha.
I do love seeing my mix of romance and other random books on this list. It is part of the reason I love making this post.

Happy Endings (Demon Magic #1)Familiar Beginnings (Happy Endings, #2)The Hitman's Guide to Making Friends and Finding Love (The Hitman's Guide, #1)The Hitman's Guide to Staying Alive Despite Past Mistakes (The Hitman's Guide #2)Melt for You (Slow Burn, #2)

  • Demon Magic duet by Alice Winters 🌈🍰🤞
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 – Stars above, I loved this series. At times, it had me laughing so hard I was crying.
  • The Hitman’s Guide duet by Alice Winters 🍰🌈
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Okay, not my favorite duet by her, but I was definitely entertained reading these.
  • Melt For You by J.T. Geissinger 🍰🎧🎮
⭐⭐⭐.5 – I will admit, it took a while for me to warm up to this one, probably didn’t help that I started it on audio and wasn’t a fan. It ended up being funny though and I mostly liked it… maybe I’ll read book 3.

Happily Ever Ninja (Knitting in the City, #5)Dating-ish (Knitting in the City, #6)Orientation Week (Breakbattle Academy #0.5)The Plan (Breakbattle Academy #1)The Execution (Breakbattle Academy #2)

  • Happily Ever Ninja by Penny Reid 🎧
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Still such a treat to read about a married couple! I only listened to a little bit of this one. I switched to the ebook –just for a bit– and next thing I knew I was done with it!
  • Dating-ish by Penny Reid 🎧
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 — Honestly, didn’t like Matt as much as my first time around. He tied with Alex in my mind, really? Nah, Alex is #1 haha (although now I’m listening to Marriage of Inconvenience and he might be tied with Dan the Security Man~)
  • Orientation Week by Ruby Vincent 🌱🍰🐾
    ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
  • The Plan by Ruby Vincent 🍰🐾👑
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – I read these two for a buddy read and was reeeeallly liking them. Also able to use this for a challenge to read a book with a purple cover!
  • The Execution by Ruby Vincent  🍰
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – I did like this one as well, but do you ever get the feeling at the end of a book that you won’t like the sequel??? Well… sometimes I do and I got that feeling hard. So, I don’t think I’ll continue.

May ’20 Monthly TBR

I like sharing what books I’m planning on reading each month and it also helps me remember which books I want to read. I actually look back at this post periodically throughout the month– I’ve lost counts of the amount of times I’ve double-checked it and realized I had forgotten about a buddy read!!

So, what exactly is on my TBR this month….

»Group/Buddy Reads

Sin & Lightning (Demigods of San Francisco, #5)Orientation Week (Breakbattle Academy #0.5)Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1)Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1)Forged by Desire (London Steampunk, #4)Pirate Nemesis (Telepathic Space Pirates #1)

This first weekend Sin & Lightning and Orientation Week are on the schedule for buddy reading. I’m running behind on my Hollows re-read, so I need to read Dead Witch Walking and the second one The Good, The Bad, and the Undead. Magic Bites is another monthly group read, just starting this month. Forged by Desire and potentially the fifth book are also on the table as potentials. And Pirate Nemesis is a group read.

So, so many buddy and group reads this month.

»Challenges

Claire Kingsley’s May Challenge–
The Plan (Breakbattle Academy #1)Forged by Desire (London Steampunk, #4)Not That Kind of GuyBroken Miles (Miles Family, #1)

  1. Purple cover, 2. Non-US setting, 3. Workplace romance, 4. First in a series

Claire Kingsley’s Bonus May Challenge–
Buck Wild (Bennett Boys Ranch, #1)Fired Up (Fever Falls, #1)Pirate Nemesis (Telepathic Space Pirates #1)

  1. Cowboy romance, 2. Firefighter character, 3. Sci-Fi romance

Monthly Goals

ARCs: Go big or go home, yeah? I want to try to read 10 ARCs in May.

Reviews: Uuuuggghhhhh minimum goal? keep the books I need to review under 100. My actual goal? I want to get it down to 50.

Misc: This month I want to listen to more audiobooks and perhaps even start a podcast. I’ve been enjoying playing audiobooks in the background and think podcasts could be a good alternative too.
It would also be great if I could fit more stretching in. I’ve been sitting way too much or laying down for long stretches of time– forgetting to get up. So, stretching and getting up regularly would be key.

What will you be reading this month?

April ’20 Wrap Up

Being home pretty much 24/7 this month has led to a bit more reading time. Let me show you what I’ve been up to.

Last month I read 67 books*!
*counting novellas and graphic novels

I read quite a few shorter books this month and had only a few DNFs which led to me reading more 😁

Here are the top 12 books I read this month:

Green Lantern: LegacyWicked Bite (Night Rebel, #2)Tangled Truths (Death Before Dragons, #3)A Bad Day for Sunshine (Sunshine Vicram, #1)The E.T. Reign the Earth (The Elementae, #1)The Rose and the Mask: A Beauty and the Beast RetellingThe Reach Between Worlds (The Arclight Saga #1)People Like Us (People Like Us, #1)Mean Streak

✅ Reign the Earth by A.C. Gaughen
This one sounds great. I should try moving it up on my TBR.

✅ The Rose and the Mask by Victoria Leybourne
How can I turn down a fairy tale retelling? I can’t! I’m not strong enough right now… plus it is on KU, so of course I just borrowed it. 🙄

✅ The Reach Between Worlds by C.M. Hayden
This sounds adventurous AND it is on KU. I already have 10 books borrowed… but hopefully I’ll read this soon.

✅ People Like Us by Dana Mele
I really need to read more YA, especially more thrillers. This one has good ratings, so I’m keeping it on my list.

✅ Mean Streak by Sandra Brown
Another thriller that sounds great. I’m so picky with them, so I can’t remove one that catches my interest so.

Wow! I’m keeping all five! What a surprise and I’m so glad to be reminded of these.
