Christmas Eve Book Tag

Hey hey!

I did this tag last year and thought I’d do it again this year too because… well, why not? Last year, I found it on  Embuhleeliest, who runs an awesome blog that you should totally check out if you haven’t already. This tag was created by Sam @SamsNonsense.

Alrighty, let’s get to the questions!

Try a Chapter Challenge – 2019 Anticipated Reads Edition

Hello friends!

I’ve been seeing this challenge around and been thinking it looked fun, but I haven’t been in a good place to really try it out. Now I’m slowing down on my reading and taking more breaks (yay!) I have more time to blog. I’ve noticed that while I’m super excited to read some books I push them off because a. I’m worried it won’t live up to the hype (internal or external) or b. I’m waiting for the “right” mindset/emotional headspace to read it… aka I’m worried about the self-hype and waiting until I forget it.

Therefore, this challenge which forces you to try books out is exactly what I need!

A quick recap of what this challenge is… the Try a Chapter Challenge is one that started on Youtube (I believe) where the person reads the first chapter of five different books and chooses one of those books to read ASAP, based on the results. Some people also use this challenge to unhaul books as well.

Sometimes I just need a kick in the pants — I start reading and I’m good, it’s the build up and waiting that make it worse, I just need to get myself started! So, I’m hoping by giving myself a taste of these books I’ll be more willing to read them sooner. Of course, I’m also allowing myself to remove books from my TBR if after one chapter I realize I’m so not into them.

Phew~ That’s a lot of information! Hopefully I can do this challenge once or twice a month– I’m thinking I’ll do it every time I finish the book I pick.

Try A Chapter Challenge – ARC Edition

Hello friends!

I’ve been seeing this challenge around and been thinking it looked fun, but I haven’t been in a good place to really try it out. Now I’m slowing down on my reading and taking more breaks (yay!) I have more time to blog. Although, the amount of ARCs I have backed up is truly stressing me out. I have 30+ ARCs that I need to read that are past their publication date– I know this isn’t as much as some people, but some of these are pushing the year mark…

That’s when it hit me.

Why not use this challenge to help me with my ARCs?!

A quick recap of what this challenge is… the Try a Chapter Challenge is one that started on Youtube (I believe) where the person reads the first chapter of five different books and chooses one of those books to read ASAP, based on the results. Some people also use this challenge to unhaul books as well.

So, I’m hoping by giving myself a taste of these books I’ll be more willing to read them sooner. I am allowing myself to drop ARCs as well if after a chapter I realize it isn’t for me.

Phew~ That’s a lot of information! Hopefully I can do this challenge once or twice a month– I’m thinking I’ll do it every time I finish the book I pick. I won’t always use my ARCs for this challenge, but I figured it was a good place to start 😉 Continue reading “Try A Chapter Challenge – ARC Edition”

July ’19 Wrap Up — Wait, Already?!

July was a month of change for me. I moved (just 20 minutes away, but still) and Summer Reading still proves to be keeping me worn out at work, so this is another month of mostly mood reads. I never thought I’d use Kindle Unlimited so much, yet here we are…

Last month I read 50 books*!
*counting novellas and graphic novels

My reading amount continues to drop, but that is probably for the best!

Here are the top 8 books I read this month:

A Prince on Paper (Reluctant Royals, #3)Trying To Live With The Dead (The Veil Diaries, #1)War (The Four Horsemen, #2)White Trash Zombie Apocalypse (White Trash Zombie, #3)

Team Phison (Team Phison, #1)Spin the Dawn (The Blood of Stars, #1)A Curse So Dark and Lonely (Cursebreakers, #1)Origins (The Grimm Cases, #1)

Book Haul

A decent haul this month, although much smaller than last month 😄

When the Dead Come A Knockin' (The Veil Diaries, #2)When To Fear The Living (The Veil Diaries, #3)Whispers from the Dead (The Veil Diaries, #4)

When Evil Comes To Play (The Veil Diaries, #5)Secrets From the Grave (The Veil Diaries, #6)When The Dead Have It Easy (The Veil Diaries #7)

I started this series and couldn’t stop. Because I read the first one on KU I didn’t buy it, but I am planning on it sooner or later.

Reading Challenges/Goals Update

✔ Goodreads Reading Challenge

Currently surpassed my goal by 60%. I’m not increasing it, we will just see how far I actually go.

»Pop Sugar Reading Challenge

38/52! I’m happy with this, but soon I’m going to need specifically searching for books to fulfill prompts.

»Read More Childrens/Middle Grade books

No middle grade books this month, yet I have 2 out from the library currently…

»Read More Diverse Books

Didn’t do great here either. A few titles could count, but a few out of 50 is not good. I need to do better.

»Series TBR Takedown

Lol this is so dead.

»Take Time to NOT Read

Now that I live with a co-worker I have spent more time talking with people after work. I’ve also been trying to make time to watch Veronica Mars. I’m one season in, but choosing to NOT read is such a hard decision…

»Additional Monthly Goals….

I wanted to read 13 ARCs… I read like 3 🙄 so that didn’t happen…

BUT, I did get reviews written for books read in May and June!! 🎉🎉🎉
At one point my ‘to-be’reviewed’ shelf was down to 10!! I mean… it is at 26 now, but even this amount is the lowest it has been in… months. Perhaps since February or March–like so, so long ago.

Final Thoughts

While I have had quite a few 4 star reads this month, I don’t think they are super memorable, so that’s why my Top Reads are fewer this month. BUT, I’m having fun and honestly, that’s the reason I read, so I’m happy even if I’m not fulfilling challenges.

Sunday Post 7/21/19

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blogs.

Hello, friends it has been awhile! Last weekend I was in the midst of moving and also had no wi-fi, so I couldn’t do my Sunday Post *gasp* My reading has also, somewhat been down… I’ll still only cover the one week of books read, we will just have a mysterious week of not knowing what I read. Ooooo Continue reading “Sunday Post 7/21/19”

Mid-Year Reading Check In

So, I’ve seen a few bloggers out there do a stats check in on their reading annnnnd it looked really cool. Shout out to Destiny @ Howling Libraries and Amanda @ MetalPhantasmReads because your posts are what convinced me to give this a whirl.
Also, I totally have a spreadsheet with some cool graphs, I might as well show off some of what I’ve got, right??? 😁

TBR Lows & Highs #43

It’s Friiiiiiday! Time to take another look at my TBR 😄

Rules:

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
    • ALTERNATIVE OPTION: Find 5+ titles that are at the BOTTOM of your TBR—books you want to read someday, just not right now!
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

Top 20 Romances I’ve Read This Year (So Far)

With the year [ almost ] halfway over, I thought I’d share some of the great books I’ve read this year! Considering I’ve already read over 300 books I figure I’ve read way more than enough to write up one of these lists, especially for this blog’s focus: Romance.

I’ve been reading a TON of romance this year. In fact, according to my reading tracker over 50% of my reading has been romance or paranormal romance. So, this list was difficult to narrow down. Seriously! When first going through my books I had almost 10 top romances JUST FROM JANUARY!! Which is why this top ten list is now a Top 20 list.
…don’t judge me too harshly.

Before I share my list, I want to clarify that these aren’t all new books, just ones I’ve read between the beginning of January and the middle of June.

Top 10 Graphic Novels I’ve Read This Year (so far)

With the year [ almost ] halfway over, I thought I’d share some of the great books I’ve read this year! Considering I’ve already read over 300 books I’ll be doing these books by genre — or in this case: medium.

Today’s list is on Graphic Novels! I adore graphic novels, but have been neglecting them over the past few years. This year I’ve been trying to read more of them, and specifically more Middle Grade ones since that is the age group I talk to the most at work.

Before I share my list, I want to clarify that these aren’t all new books, just ones I’ve read between the beginning of January and the middle of June. Continue reading “Top 10 Graphic Novels I’ve Read This Year (so far)”
