New Years Resolution Book Tag 2018

I wanted to do some sort of tag post for the new year, but haven’t found one until I was wandering through the depths of WordPress when I was bored (I know, valuable reading time wasted). So, I was happy to stumble upon The Book Dutchesses tag post which was originally created over at Melissa’s Book World

New year, New books, and New resolutions 🙂

An Author You’d Like to Read (That You’ve Never Read Before)

Victoria Schwab

The first author that comes to mind is V.E. Schwab. I am super excited to read books by her this year!!

Shades of Magic is part of my series takedown challenge, so I will finally be reading books by this author. YAY

A Classic You’d Like to Read

I’m really not a fan of reading classics… I know, I feel like everyone reading has just gasped. I have broken the rules of being a book work. Yet, many classics I try to read are so difficult for me to get through– if I finish them at all.

I am trying to make it an unofficial goal to try one classic a year though… so, maybe I’ll try something else by the Bronte sisters this year…

A Book You’d Like to Re-read

Oh, soooooo many. Lately though, I’ve had one book on my mind just begging to be read again: The Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews. I don’t know what it is about these three books, but I want to read them so badly! Besides that, I am also excited to finally finish The Hollows series, so I’ll be re-reading the books of the series I have read. Since I totally love this series I cannot wait to get started.

The Innkeeper Chronicles, Volume 1Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1)

A Book You’ve Had for Ages and Want to Read

I honestly don’t own that many physical books that I haven’t read. I have a few kindle books, but those are usually freebies. *skims over bookshelves* Oh! You know, I forgot about these two, but I do want to read them.

Wolf Children: Ame & Yuki No Game, No Life Vol. 1 (No Game, No Life manga, #1)I own these two light novels which I picked up when I lived in Japan. So, both are in Japanese. No images, just text. I meant to keep reading No Game No Life but life got away from me. I haven’t picked it up in over 2 years.

So, I really want to read these and these are the oldest books I own that I have yet to read.

UGH my Japanese is so rusty though, I don’t know if I’ll even be able to understand them as well as I could 2 years ago…

A Big Book You’d Like to Read

Currently, the longest book on my TBR is Kushiel’s Dart @ 1,015 pages. The longest physical book I own, but have yet to read is Zero World @ 592 pages and the one I most want to read at this moment is Illuminae @ 602 pages.

Kushiel's Dart (Phèdre's Trilogy, #1)Zero WorldIlluminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)

An Author You’ve Previously Read and Want to Read More of

Well, my favorite authors are the ones that come to mind, but I do really hate repeating answers. So, I’ll be picking authors that have books available that I have yet to read.

  • Tamora Pierce
Yes, lets start with the favorites — I still haven’t read A Spy’s Guide and Tempest and Slaughter is coming out in a few months. I NEED THESE BOOKS.
  • Ashley Poston
Was kinda a fan of her second Radio Hearts book, but then LOVED Geekerella. So, I want to read the first Radio Hearts book and I cannot wait to get my hands of Heart of Iron.
  • Holly Black
The Coldest Girl in Goldtown totally won my heart. I have another book by her out from the library, so we will see if my enjoyment of her writing carries on.
  • Kristin Cashore
The Graceling Realm, I thought, was phenomenal. I haven’t read her other book yet, but I have heard so many bad things… I do want more from this author, but not sure if I want to read a potentially bad book :/
  • Laini Taylor
I have only read Strange the Dreamer which was absolutely stunning, so I’m excited to start the Daughter of Smoke and Bones trilogy.

A Book You Got for Christmas and Would Like to Read

The Demon King (Seven Realms, #1)

The Demon King
by Cinda Williams Chima is really the only book I got for Christmas 😦 even that was a surprise since my family doesn’t buy me books anymore and my fiance didn’t really want to, but he did in the end so yay!

Honestly, I do really want to read this book, but because I own it, it kinda goes to the bottom of the pile underneath Netgalley and library books. I will fit it in somehow haha.

A Series You Want to Read (Start and Finish) &
A Series You Want to Finish (That You’ve Already Started)

I feel like I talk about this topic non-stop. So, here is a quick recap of the series I want to finish this year with the series I’ve already started or have read partially previously underlined:

  • The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices
  • Daughter of Smoke and Bone
  • The Hollows
  • The Raven Cycle
  • Chronicles of Ixi
  • Shades of Magic
  • The Books of Pellinor
  • The Illuminae Files
  • Mither Mages
  • Heroes of Olympus
  • The Assassin’s Curse

About 54 books in all, but I think I can handle it 🙂

Do You Set Reading Goals?

If so, how many books do you want to read in 2018?

2018 GR reading goal

With a busy year ahead of me, we will see if this will be challenging or not haha.

Any Other Reading Goals?

Yes! I wrote a post about it, but here is a quick recap.

  1. Series TBR Takedown Challenge
I want to get those series off my TBR.
  2. Read for Quality not Quantity
Even if it means I read less books overall
  3. Read more Audiobooks
  4. Be a Picker Reader, DNF less
If I’m picker with what I request or try to read, then I won’t have to DNF as much.

And that is that! 🙂 This was fun and I encourage anyone to do it. I’d love to see your answers ^_^.

Do you have a classics recommendation for me? What is the physical book you’ve owned the longest? What is the longest book on your TBR?

Let me know in the comments!!~
