My 2018 Challenges

Hey all 🙂

I wanted to share my challenges/goals for next year with you all! This year I’ll be mainly be taking part in three different challenges. I love doing challenges with groups, but sometimes the challenges become too much like work for me and I stop wanting to read, so I do have to be careful. Therefore while I mainly think of these as challenges, I also consider them to be ‘goals’ because it seems less stressful somehow.

Without further ado, here they are:

Goodreads Reading Challenge

2016 my goal was to read 100 books — I read 190
2017 my goal was to read 150 books, then I raised it to 250 — I’ve read 328 books [so far ;)]

In 2018 much will be changing. Hopefully I’ll be graduating grad school in May, moving in July, and getting a full-time job. Lots of hope for all of those, but it will limit my reading. So, my goal is to read 200 books in 2018

I don’t wanna stress about it and if I do surpass it, I can always increase it like I did this year 🙂

Ultimate Popsugar Reading Challenge

This one has been making the rounds, so I decided to check it out! Here is the website and after thinking this is something I might pull off, I even joined the GR group.

I found a spreadsheet through the GR site and edited it with my own potential books here. Since I’m still uncertain of which books I’ll actually be using I won’t list anything here, but it is only 40-50 books long depending on what version is picked, so if you are looking for challenges I would recommend checking this one out.

Series TBR Takedown Challenge

Now this, is my main one. I did this challenge this year starting mid-year with good success (39/46 books read). I finished all the series, but one!! Because this will run year long this time, I’ve expanded the series to encompass not only series I’ve left unfinished but also completed series on my TBR I haven’t gotten to yet.

Honestly, I keep starting new series that aren’t finished when there are so many completed series that I should be working on instead!
Since this is my main challenge I’ll go into more detail. Here are the series I want to finish this year in the order I hope to read them:

The Mortal Instruments & Infernal Devices

This is the only one I didn’t finish this year, but I did finally get past book one! In fact, I’ve read the first three! So, here is all that is left.

Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1)Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2)Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3)

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4)City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5)City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6)

The Bane ChroniclesTales from the Shadowhunter Academy

This is a lot to take on, especially at the beginning of the year… especially since I’m still trying to catch up with Netgalley approvals, but I think I can finish them by the end of February. Hopefully!!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Taylor Laini

I just really want to read this series, but I keep putting it off. Let me live!! Also, it might be nice to have a shorter series to read in between larger ones.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1)Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #2)Night of Cake & Puppets (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #2.5)Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #3)

The Hollows by Kim Harrison

I absolutely love this series and read 9 of the books…. over 5 years ago. Now that the series is over I can finish it once and for all!! 13 books plus 10+ novellas

The Undead Pool (The Hollows, #12)The Witch With No Name (The Hollows, #13)

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

This is another series I’ve been really wanting to read, but been putting off because I didn’t like Shiver… I’ll give this a try!

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1)The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle, #2)Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle, #3)The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, #4)

Chronicles of Ixi by Maria V. Snyder

I have read the first book in the Study series and I did enjoy it! I just…. forgot to keep reading the series? Then I realized that some series overlap becoming Chronicles of Ixi, so now I have much more to read! 9 books with just a few novellas thrown in.

Shades of Magic

I really want to read this trilogy and the feeling has grown over the past few months. I almost broken down and bought it with X-mas money…. I still might, who knows.

A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1)A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic, #2)A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic, #3)

The Books of Pellinor by Alison Croggon

This is a series I totally loved as a kid, considering I had the first two novels. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the rest… So, it is time I finished this one up. 4 novels plus some novellas

The Naming (Pellinor, #1)The Riddle (The Books of Pellinor, #2)The Crow (The Books of Pellinor, #3)The Singing (The Books of Pellinor, #4)

The Illuminae Files

The last book in this series comes out this year, so I will definitely be picking this series up! I’ve been wanting to read it for ages.

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2)Obsidio (The Illuminae Files, #3)

Mither Mages by Orson Scott Card

I listened to the first book while commuting to school and thoroughly enjoyed it. I just never got around to the rest of it :/ So, I think it is time I finish this one up.

The Lost Gate (Mither Mages, #1)The Gate Thief (Mither Mages, #2)Gatefather (Mither Mages #3)

Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson extras

I finished Percy Jackson as part of this year’s series takedown, but I didn’t realize there were more novellas after the ending…. so I need to read them, PLUS I want to keep going in this world. I want more Nico 🙂

The Assassin’s Curse by Cassandra Clarke

I’ve had my eye on this duology for a while now! It is time I finally gave in to it.

The Assassin's Curse (The Assassin's Curse, #1)The Pirate's Wish (The Assassin's Curse, #2)

Total: 54 books

If any of the series I have read were completed I would have more to put here :/ but 54 will have to do 🙂

All in all, I’m trying to read 200 book next year and I’ve got at least 54 of them planned, with more potentials lined up with the Popsugar challenge. With all the amazing books coming out as well, I can already tell this coming year is going to be a great reading year!!

Are you doing any challenges this year? Are you pushing yourself to try new things? How many books will you try to read?
