Top Ten Tuesday: All The Food I Cannot Eat

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish.

Theme: Food Mentioned in Books

Now, I usually do not remember the food in books, because I’m not paying attention to it — although I always want to eat it. So, below is an assortment of books, genre of books, and a little more, because I just couldn’t think of any more food books haha.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Harry Potter

I do try not to mention the Harry Potter series often, but in this case I couldn’t help myself. The first meal at Hogwarts made my mouth water and then Halloween??? and gosh…. I think I ended up reading quickly through their meal times just so I wouldn’t make myself too hungry.
I do need to check out that Harry Potter cookbook 😉

The Night Circus

The Night Circus

You can’t tell me that anyone who has read this book hasn’t wished they were at this circus. The performers may be the main draw, but I remember the food sounding interesting.

Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1)

The Parasol Protectorate

This may just be a tea time thing, but I remember it more fondly in this book. What cakes, sweets, biscuits, etc. are served with tea that make them sound so delicious?! I mean, I’m not even a huge fan of tea, but if I had these kinds of spreads I might be.

Southern Peach Pie and a Dead Guy (Poppy Peters, #1)

Southern Peach Pie & a Dead Guy

She goes to a baking school, I mean…. how could you not be hungry while reading this book??? I have never wanted pie so badly in my life.

Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (The Dowser #1)

Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic

Yet another cozy mystery revolving around food, bear with me here. I do very much need to try the cupcake recipes in the back of this book because… wow. cupcakes.

Wicked Appetite (Lizzy & Diesel, #1)

Wicked Appetite

The main character is a pastry chef who makes magical pastries… ummm I mean… why wouldn’t I want to eat those?

I also have a huge sweet tooth if you have yet to notice.

The gif above is from a movie called Castle in the Sky, which is pretty amazing, and let me start this off by saying this scene has prompted my love for egg (& cheese) on toast for breakfast. Although, their bread is probably a lot better ^_^

The thing is, in many books I have read characters eat these AMAZING sounding breads, some simple (bread with honey drizzled on top) to more complex stuffed breads and the like. I want them all. I probably never want specialty bread as much as I do when I’m reading a book– usually a fantasy. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the names of these books with delicious sounding bread, so if you read a book with bread mentioned, assume that is one of them 😉

Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1)

Six of Crows

It is easy to make me want to eat waffles. I want to eat waffles all the time, who doesn’t? This book does not make a huge deal out of food, but somehow, either through Tumblr or whatever, whenever I think of this book I usually think of Nina and Inej and waffles. Next time I read this book, I will have some waffles nearby.

Bentou Boxes

Pick up a shoujo manga and I swear there is going to be a bento in there somewhere. That dedication and motivation to cook for another person??? I don’t have it in me, but when I see the delicious food, I really wish I could create them.

Ramen & Curry in Manga and Anime

Ramen and curry, two foods I grew to love in Japan. I cannot tell you how hungry I get when I see these foods in anime or manga. In fact, the gif on the right of curry is already making me think of my shopping list and what else I need to make curry.
It should also be mentioned that with the ramen gif on the left, this is the second Studio Ghibli gif I have used, so yes, anything Ghibli makes me hungry as well.

My hunger for these foods is part of the reason I have yet to read/ watch Food Wars. I’ve heard great things, but it is difficult to watch or read when I cannot eat the food T_T

So, those are the things I could think of! What books/movies/shows/etc make you hungry?

  1. Howl’s Moving Castle. Everytime I watch it and Howl makes that thick cut bacon, eggs and toast all in one pan on Calcifer, I wish I can reach into the TV and join them in eating it. Also, Reyes in the Charley Davidson series is a really good chef and he’s always cooking up Mexican cuisine in the books that sound so delicious!

  2. The one book that really got to me was The Return of the King, when Pippin and Bergil go out and have a sort of a picnic with bread and cheese and apples. That was my favorite snack for years – I need to pick up some of everything.

Oh, and Jodi Taylor’s books always make me crave tea and chocolate.
